story with such depth...The cinematography, the art direction, and the sheer enormity of the visuals were staggering. Great sword work... exquisite wire sequences... and HUGE battles - but all done with an intensity that's stunning. And even more, the
acting was superb - Chow Yung Fat is a master, and his scenes together with Gong Li are beautifully emotional. Gong Li is more beautiful than ever in a role that demands huge range from the first scene and never lets up... She does her best work ever! I
have nothing but praise for this film. I can't wait to see it again.
Summary: I saw this AMAZING film tonight!
[CSW] -4- I greatly enjoyed the depth of character in each of the key players. The internal intrigue in this very dark story is always engaging and is matched by the splendor, beauty, and sheer enormity of the visuals that are absolutely staggering. The
martial arts matched the plot and were not exactly over done did require a little suspension of disbelief at times because of the enormity and precision of their execution. If it wasn't such a dark script I would (give it a -5- and) want it in my
collection. This epic should not be missed, as the first viewing is truly awe inspiring.
